"He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out"

I did not expect the second book to surpass the first one as for my personal thought, the first book was very impressive.
I have always underestimated Sarah J. Maas, not because her books are horrible, it's because of my private issue about her. But this book exceeds my expectation. It was very lengthy and a bit dragging, yes. But also super awesome. It brought Rhysand, someone who had 101% potential to be cool supervillain, turned out to be the good guy when we look through Feyre's angle. He reminds me of my favorite character all the time, Luke Castellan (which Rhysand--or anyone--could not beat), but this time, Rhysand is the character of independence and has always determined his next step, unlike Luke which is sort of 'possessed'. It was a very intriguing experience to read this book.
What makes me did not rate it 5 stars is because how easy it is for Sarah J. Maas to switch side like that. Although everything adds up with the first book and unrealistically makes sense, does it really necessary? It's like she tries to create 2.0 version of Throne of Glass. Only this time, the main character's love interest see his partner as a whole creature and her own being instead of undergoing toxic relationship. Not that I have read Throne of Glass and been following the dramas, I just take a part where things heat up and my friends start to vent about it.

I am incapable of putting coherent thoughts right now. Not because this book haunted me so much I could not sleep at night, blah. I hardly found a reason why I subjectively liking this book so much, it's very contadictive with my feeling toward the author and her previous series. Pfff, no offense. Guess I'm afraid this will be disappointing even before the series end (8 books, you kiddin', mate?)
AND SPEAKING OF MATE. Indeed the mate shits going on blew my mind so much I couldn't think straight because well, shit, did I not see that coming.
For now, that's my brief review. Pinky promise my next one will be more satisfying.
